Carissa Solomon
I grew up in Pennsylvania, where I enjoyed hiking in the Appalachian Mountains and cooking big Sunday dinners with my family. After earning my undergraduate degree in history from George Washington University and a masters in ethics from the University of Pennsylvania, I decided that it was time to conquer new life challenges. In 2009, I moved to Colorado with my sights set on beginning my teaching career, hiking in the Rocky Mountains, and pursuing my new-found love of yoga. After teaching for a year each at Ranum Middle School and Adams City Middle School, I found a home at the Girls Athletic Leadership School. I spent eight years at GALS, teaching 8th grade Social Studies, leading the school’s yoga program, and introducing new teachers to the school’s unique movement-based pedagogy.
I am thrilled to join Embark. I am deeply committed to Embark’s vision of leveraging authentic real-world educational experiences to engage and grow adolescents’ inherent intellectual curiosity. I find I look forward learning, exploring, working and having fun with students each day.
